About Our History
KOVAX has its origins in the automotive painting techniques developed by its founder. Specifically, his process involved painting and sanding, followed by additional coats of paint and sanding. This innovative approach was named after the town of Kanasugi in Shitaya, Tokyo (now referred to as Negishi, Taito City, Tokyo). Consequently, our founder earned the title “Kanasugi Meister” within the automotive fender painting industry, thanks to his unique technique known as “Kanasugi-Nuri.”
However, in 1929, the Great Depression posed significant challenges, making it difficult to obtain foreign-made waterproof abrasive paper, which is essential for effective painting work. In response to this demand and after extensive trial and error, we successfully developed our own “Waterproof Coated Abrasive Paper.” Subsequently, we began supplying this product to competitors who recognized its importance, and as a result, we quickly gained a positive reputation within the industry. Ultimately, this transition led KOVAX to shift its focus from automotive painting to the manufacture of “Waterproof Coated Abrasive Paper.” Since that pivotal moment, we have proudly produced this vital product for nearly a century, solidifying our place in the market.
